R1 airbox questions
I'm trying to fit the standard airbox upside down. There's an assembly underneath the throttle bodies that gets in the way of the rubbers
sitting in the correct place. Has anyone got any suggestions about how best to seal or otherwise fit it?
Also, inside the airbox there are unequal length rubber trumpets, two short, two long. Which ones should fit where?

My mate has Busa engine and the two middle trumpets are longer (and curl) the two outer ones are shorter.
So i would keep the middle ones long.
He bought two extra trumpets from malc though as he has a sausage filter.
I got the same engine as you, but getting a sausage filter too. shoudl look a lot better and funkin' MINT!

Kriss, if you've got the airbox then why not fit that instead of a foam filter? It's less expensive and gives better power.

I am going to use both. I love the look of the foam filter and it will go a treat with the rest of the engine bay (polished bits, hoses etc)
Will prob use the std filter for track days for the noise regs and performance.
We will see, I am tart. Getting my car built as it love the look of them. bought a BEC without realising just how much of a weapon they are.
I just cant wait to hear it. I have not heard a FI engine for real yet!

sounds sweet!
My old Vee6 use to sound good in neutral being revved, but an engine sounds so much better under load and moving!

Airbox fitting
Hi Jubal,
Getting back on topic.....
The "thing" that is in the way of the airbox seating correctly is the choke actuator which richens up the mixture when the bike is cold.
It can be removed and the engine will still work fine. You will notice that it is fed water via a small pipe from the block. You will need to ensure
this is blocked up correctly. Many racers remove this anyway.
Regarding the 2 long and 2 short trumpets, these are non standard as Yamaha supplied equal length trumpets. You have probably got an aftermarket set
of Graves "velocity stacks" as they call them. Keep them, they will add a couple of HP to the motor, and improve midrange too. The two
long ones should be on the two innermost cylinders.
