5JJ / 5PW R1 Gearbox Parts

Hi All

Just for information really, but having failed to source a second hand R1 gearbox to replace the broken gears in my 5PW, I went to the local Yam dealer to find out about ordering the individual gears brand new and found out that for the gears I needed at least (3rd/4th and 5th on the input shaft), they're 5JJ part numbers so as I suspected, are interchangeable with 2000/2001 year R1 engines. The gearbox as a whole isn't necessarily identical though as the selector fork I ordered is a 5PW part, although the other 2 forks are 5JJ and 4XV respectively, so most of it will be the same.

Also for info, the two gears and a selector fork cost me about £180, and thats including one "gear" that's actually 3rd and 4th siamesed together which cost nearly £110 on its own. 5th gear was about £45 and the selector about £30, so if you do have gearbox problems but find that you've only damaged a couple of gears, it might not work out any dearer buying new individual gears than sourcing a second hand box.

Chris

Those prices are cheaper than replacing Blade gears!

Yep, about £80-90 per gear for Honda parts IIRC?
