You would use an Acid Etch Primer. (as said above)

I was just searching Google to find you an international brand when I came across this advice on a LandRover forum:

PAINTING ALI ADVICE!

There was a paint called ACID#8 that appears to be pretty good and international.

If you spray on the etch primer, even though it's eaten into the metal and primed it for paint, if you rub through you need to spray it again...

Have you considered getting the bonnet anodised? It might cost a bit, but would look pretty damn cool!

Steve

Acid #8 is from u-pol, available in both a Powercan (large 450ml aerosol) and as a 1L tin.

I've used it previously on ally and it works great.

Datasheet here.

Acid #8 sure is good. Evil stuff though. Wear goggles if you're spraying outside

Spining Colin

I suspect the whole Locost thing is giving Chunky Chapman a high grave RPM already, let alone whether the bonnets are painted! He tried to to kill the 7 off with the Europa, sold the design to that mug from Caterham.

One tip for painting alluminium - rub it down with Scotchbrite to take the shine off it before priming with acid etch.

Enough about paint already - how did you (or who) make those lovely louvers?

Cheers

Back to polishing then...

see the pics of that machine in my website.
....
back to polishing/painting... My car will be blue in top, aluminium in the sides.
I don't like - as several pics I've seen - the nosecone and scuttle coloured and bonet without colour.
for me the colour who start in in nose will finish in the scuttle, passing by the bonet.

it's a choice! and I've studied very much that color scheme 5 years (yes) ago.

cheers & thanks all for coments about alu painting

Polished alu looks dumb and cheap. But, hey, that's just me. I was told to sand with 220 grit prior to painting, but scotchbrite would do the same job. Gives the paint something to stick to apparently.
