Quaife reverse box woes. I'm fed up
quality control at Quaife is crap. The thing was leaking oil from the bolts that hold the flange bearing carriers on because the bolt holes are not
blind and instead screw into the sump oil so of course the oil finds its way down the threads and out on to the garage floor. Whiles its out I make a
header tank because most need one aparently which winds me up because it should come with one. Then I check the reverse switch is working ok and yes
thats shagged too!
So I have two questions.. Does anyone know what reverse switch Quaife use and does anyone know of someone who can make a centre bearing and carrier to
the exact same dimentions as the Quaife box so I can flog the thing?

I would be tempted to ditch it and just fit a new prop rather than try to get a center bearing to fit.
don't forget to fit a new prop with a center bearing though.

If posserble I could really do with using the props I have as they are both telescopic and the rear one is a tube in tube type so cost a fortune and
not very Locost.

centre bearing isn't easy to do that way, hence jon's idea.
Most don't have two flanges, else you can't get at the actual bearing, unless one flange is splined on, and that costs a lot to do!
Your best bet is to sell the props and reverse box to another caterham builder (somebody must want the thing as they ain't cheap!!)
then get a new 2 piece TRT type prop (twin tube rubber sandwich job as per yours)
There's a few suppliers mentioned regularly on here who make em.

I'm not sure that Quaife reverse boxes need a header tank but they do need a breather (preferably with a catch can). I'm told they die
very quickly without them.
If you do decice to fit a new prop have a word with Carl at Extreme Engines as I believe they do a motorcycle style cush drive in steel that is
designed to be welded to the end your new prop as it is made. www.extremeengines.com
