MotaLeira, progress!!!!!!!!!
I have decided to stick with the "brush" look paintwork. That way I won't get bent out of shape when it gets chipped and no body will
notice the paint touch ups!

That aside that looks fantastic, always loved your chassis.
Did you ever get that fuel tank made btw? I seem to remember you were having some problems?

I am always amazed by your progress. You seem to get far more than me down, and you are building everything from scratch! Good job (although I agree
with the paint finish remark - seems a shame not to have powercoated or sprayed it all.).

Yep - same here - fantastic level of workmanship, which most people won't notice as they'll be looking at the brush marks in the
paint.....
Get it blasted and powdered.... sorry!

Sorry mate but it needs powdercoat (or spaying at least). Its a case of "for the sake of a nail...
The little faults on mine that only I notice look terrible to me and are really winding me up.

you've got an exposed chassis, so the last thing i'd do is powder coat it as you've said it will need repairs - I would get it
blasted after a you've had it on the road, and do a DIY spray of hammerite - cheap, cheerful and looks pretty good imho!

The reasoning behind not having powder coating is that atom owners are always complaining about stone chips and rust.
Hammerite always chips as well.
The paint I have used is epoxy mastic 121, which is a two pack paint and is like a plastic.
It is supposed to be chip, crack, salt, oil and brake fluid proof.
I think that I want to give this car a damn good thrashing without worrying about stone chips or like the atom owners, stripping the car down every
few years.
I'd rather just get the paint brush out again.
It should mean more time driving and less time re-building so it looks "nice".

Oadamo offered to make me one but has since disappeared. I hope he is ok as he hasn't even read my u2u's.
My mate finally made me the tank so all I have to do is get the floor made so the car will be on it's wheels.
The wait on the tank held me up 6 weeks as I needed to mount the tank to finish the chassis and paint it.

Not sure as it is a plastic type paint. Burning/powder coat oven might be the only option.
It is supposed to bond to the steel.

nitram its a shame to hide all that neat work you have done with that paint, personally i dont like it and would either have it powder coated or
sprayed a satin black. you have done an awesome job so far and it would be a shame to let it down with a bad paint job. to me it just looks too
rough, reminds me of the hammerite paint. just my thoughts on the matter, dont take it personally as apart from the paint the rest of the car is
outstanding work.

Looking good that is! Not sure if this is a silly idea or not, but would it be possible to get the chassis zinc plated or the like? That way you could
have a shiny chassis and show off all the excellent work you've done. Or would that just chip off too?

The closest to zinc you can get is hot zinc sprayed, but there are drawbacks.
You should paint it over as rust can still form and the surface, if left un-painted, will become chalky and leave white marks on you/your clothes as
you step in and out.
Galvanising is out of the question as you cannot galvanise sealed tubework.
This means that you have to drill 10mm opposing holes in the ends of tubework, so that the galve can flow through.
This can lead to interesting weight gain, especially if the galve collects in your tube work and does not drain when they lift it out of the vat.
Again a white oxide forms that you will get on you.

Car looks superb in the black finish mate, but I have to agree the paint has to go! Either go for a full "crinkle" finish, or flat it down
and go for satin. Can the paint you used not be spray applied?

Fair enough, I didn't realise it would go all manky after a while.
