Pikey thieving Bstd

Suns just come out so thought I would go for a spin in the Indy. Popped into Tesco (Northwich) for a bottle of wine. Gone about a minute and on my drive back noticed some c*ck had ripped my tax disc off the car. (proper motorbike holder bolted to the chassis)

I only bought it last month (£120 I think)

Do I report it to the police/DVLA and can I get another without paying more.

Not that bothered about the cash but more miffed that some oik thinks he has the right to take things of my car (which has taken a year of hard work)

Sorry for the rant but these people really shouldnt be alive

Paul

Report it to the police as the DVLA may need a crime number in order to get you a new disc.

As well as deserving death, the sh*t head must be really thick as well because tax dodgers these days are caught by computers and NPR camera. If he drives his sh*theap on your number then he will be seen by the NPR cameras, and if he drives on his then they already know he hasnt taxed it

Police and DVLA, you'll need the crime number for DVLA, then they won't pay out on a surrender.

More likely though your disc will be on an untested uninsured pile of old shite now...

It's a complete lack of respect. The basic problem we have these days. A stranger is our enemy and fair game to many. Don't let the bastards get you down Paul!

Just spoken to the police and got an incident number. Some ones given it a right tug as it was in a metal holder bolted to the chassis.

Checked on the DVLA website and can get a replacement for £7.

Just annoyed really. I reckon they thought "oh nice motor, obviously a rich ass owns it" Not thinking that most of these cars take blood and sweat to build over years.

sorry to bring this up but don't forget it is an offence not to display a current tax disc, the vehicles in our depot have the disc removed during the day to prevent any-one nicking one, some-one took one out one day on company bussiness but forgot the disc and an jobs worth traffic warden booked him for no tax disc, the company just paid the fine regardless of the fact they are one of the countries top distribution firms

Ive calmed down now. Plus I still have the bottle of wine

Other than a bike holder (and not taking the car to Tesco) what have people used to secure the disc?

Ask the Police for a theft proof holder - they're £1 from our local cops - stick to glass like a limpet.

A haulage firm i used to work for kept all tax discs in a filing cabinet with the trucks paper work..

put a photo copy in the windscreen apparently because some disgruntled employ tried to cash 1 in at a time..

Someone nicked my tax disc from my car one night. I bought a new one straight away then rang the DVLA. They sent a claim form out which I filled in and returned and they coughed up the difference in money that I lost. So all in it cost me the price of a 1st class stamp.

I just keep my tax on me.... If I get a ticket I'll just send them a photocopy of the disc and get off the charge. It doesn't say where you have to display the tax disc so unless they've taken photos of the entire car chances are I'll get off
Sure, the situation sucks. It would be nice if you could leave your poo parked and no-one would muck with it but hey...

Erm, by rights it is written down somewhere at work that the disc should be in the traditional place. Can't even remember where I read it or the exact wording cos I just ignored it but it definitely is written down.

DVLA link

and extract
quote:

Display your tax disc

Display a tax disc on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle’s windscreen. If there’s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle.

We have one of these which is positioned between the seats on the rear bulkhead and is bolted in position using bolts longer than the standard ones.
