airbox setup

got the car on a rolling road on friday to get it set up properly for a pipercross airbox. it was previously using an open sausage filter.

first run it was way to rich so we changed from 132's to 128 mains. still way to rich.
he then tried with no airbox or filter and it was slightly lean, then with the box fitted but no filter in the end of it which got pretty similar results.
his view was that he would have to jet down so far to get it right i would be losing a lot of power.
the filter seems to be very restrictive, it is very small.

unsure what way to go now, either go for a different airbox altogether or get an enclosed filter like this
and pipe it into the pipercross box.
the second option would be easiest and cheapest but not sure how well it would work both on noise reduction and performance.

cheers

no. i've gone back to the open filter now.
it was just the airbox with the pipe running from the airbox inlet to the front of the car

just like this but the other way round with the inlet pipe over the top of the rad

it has a small filter in the box where the flexy hose meets it

cheers for the use of the pic, i need to remember to use the camera more often

did you not have any problems with it running very rich when you first fitted the airbox?

I re-jetted it from 155 to 205 when I passed my SVA. Haven't changed it since, even when I fitted the air box.

Mind you, I haven't had it on a rolling road in three years!

Ooops!

Mike

i didn't actually need the rolling road to know it wasn't right, on the way there it didn't quite feel right.
it was back to being spot on again yesterday with the sausage filter

slightly smaller intake but much bigger filter

scrap that idea, will struggle to get it to fit.

its a lot more than the pipercross box but at least it will work properly.

didn't discuss actual levels. looking at the pics he sent me i would think it would be as quite as the standard blade airbox
