R1... Rough...Hesitant

Hi all,

Took my Mk R1 to the SVA yesterday and for some reason my right foot got really heavy at times i did find a bit of a prolem. When i put my foot down and it got to about 7K the car felt hesitant...sort of refusing to keep going, if you get what i mean. Is it just a case i need to set the engine up, or could it be the cat i had fitted? it's a 2000 carb R1 with a pipercross sausage filter.

Any advice would be great.

Cheers
Adam

After SVA loose the cat and fit a car specific Dynojet kit and then see how it goes.
probably a combination of the cat and lean jetting from the open airfilter making it hold back. I would avoid too much high rev use untill the jetting is sorted,

Mine was the same when the R1 was first fitted got to 7k and just spluttered, unless your running the air box you’ll need a dynojet kit fitting.

You could always try it with the bonnet of and the air box fitted to prove it! That’s what I did and boy was it fast after the old Xflow

But me being me i still wasnt happy

You have a different air intake, different manifold and different silencer. Your engine needs to be re-jetted to suit these. Once you fit a dynojet kit or similar, take it to a rolling road and get it fine tuned. It really does need it. I didn't take mine for ages but wish I had now I've found out what difference it makes.

My 06 R1 was the same at first. It was just running weak and its ok now I've turned up the mixture. The R1 has a bit of a hole in the power band somwhere there abouts on the bike. Power doesn't really come in 'till 10k anyway!

Taking a trip down the M1 to Silverstone and TTS does the job quite nicely. They'll try various dynojet kits and sell you the one which produces the best drive on the dyno....

Yep - I got my filter and jet kit from TTS. Tell them it's going into a bec rather than bike because they do a bec specific kit.

JUst a quick update...

Phoned TTS this week and spoke to paul.... very helpful. Ordered a kit and was here the next day, so great service really.

Fitted the jets and needles and stuff today. Have to say the instructions were not great but with the aid of this site and the workshop manual i finally go it all done.

Took it out for a spin. MY GOD! it's like a different car, so smooth and i must say bl**dy fast!

So thanks for all the advice guys...

Cheers

Hello mate,

I paid £95 plus the VAT, might seem expensive but it solved the problem so worth every penny to me
