Brilliant weekend at blyton!
daniel mason - 13/7/14 at 09:10 PM

A brilliant weekend was had at blyton this weekend with amazing weather and very competative sprinters.probably the best I have seen at 1 meet!
It was great to meet some of the lcb gang over the weekend, and thanks to all that came and said hello. There were many but not great with names. VolvosportR with some great aero advice. Capri big jim (hope tyres were ok today),avonjase who was very nice chap. And also to the other competitors from the forum I hadn't met yet. Red turner was a truly great character! Gordon Riley who won again in the lotus both days and jeff Wiltshire in the awesome supercharged phoenix! I think jeff lectured me on Saturday evening telling me not to drive like a fairy after being 2 seconds off the pace and I took note and took class win and outright class record today on my final run with a 65.64 sec run!
I hope jeff broke the 70 sec barrier but didn't see his final time but either way it was great to meet up and get stuck in with some seriously quick sprinters!

nice to meet ya dan... looked good until you hit the gravel ... well actually that was impressive too .

was some nice motors , bit of a shame i could only make it for the afternoon and the gould broke down twice ...

daniel mason - 13/7/14 at 11:20 PM

The Gould took outright lap record yesterday and was awarded a nice bottle of champagne from Richard usher at the awards! I collected another 2 for 1st In class and fastest novice with the 65.64. Think the novice In the 330bhp supercharged duratec did a 66 but I just put in a good last lap to take it!

daniel mason - 13/7/14 at 11:22 PM

For reference the Gould had a temp sensor issue which got stuck at 110 deg causing the engine to cut!

Volvorsport - 13/7/14 at 11:29 PM

trophies aswell !!!

must be pleased with yourself..

Looking good dan.

Did the weather hold out all weekend for you?

AvonJas - 14/7/14 at 06:23 AM

Hi Dan
Good to meet you to, sounds like you had a cracking weekend. Jeff's advice certainly did the trick , that's a big improvement from Saturday , nice one !

jeffw - 14/7/14 at 06:51 AM

My fastest run of the weekend (70.43)

Had a number of issues with my supersoft ZZRs (put the front right through to the steel reinforcement) and changed them for the Mediums and went 2 secs faster. Car is very loose as the tyres where not upto temp and had a lot of pickup from a trackday.

3rd in class which wasn't great but shagged tyres don't help.

Was great to catch up with Daniel and well done on your times on Sunday....great run

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 09:52 AM

Weather was great both days Andy and everyone was going faster and faster as the weekend went on!
Was great to catch up jeff and it was a great weekend all round

jeffw - 14/7/14 at 10:26 AM

Love the spin after the finish...did they let you keep the time?

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 10:55 AM

Yes mate. I just started spinning as I crossed the line so run was good! I was pushing hard as rich Vaughan had done a 65.90 the run before to break class record so a 65.64 was a great result for me! Fastest novice award was another bonus as I know Luke Algar who won it Saturday was just nipping under 67 secs in the supercharged duratec Westfield!
Even the journey home was ok and traffic not too bad!
Gordon Riley who I travel to events with was having the same issues as you with the supersoft tyres in his lotus Elise and said mediums would Have been better.

jeffw - 14/7/14 at 01:49 PM

My issue was worn out Supersofts rather than anything else.

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 03:11 PM

Just had results emailed and I did 65.68 and not 65.64 but what's 4 hundredths between mates!

yellowcab - 14/7/14 at 04:01 PM

Good run Dan,

Are you clutching on up changes?! if not clutching, then you seem to be lifting a fair bit as your revs die off quite dramatically…

Thought you had the Pro-shifter (with auto blipped) now?

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 04:12 PM

No clutch on up shifts mate the flat shifter cuts the ignition on up shifts. I'm hard on the throttle and just pull the paddles! The blipped works on the downshift but I've been using clutch when going down gears as the flat shifter sometimes fails to shift down without the clutch

yellowcab - 14/7/14 at 04:51 PM

Ignition cut seems such a long time, on my Busa it was 1/100th second - whats your set at?

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 05:19 PM

Not sure but it feels instant. Maybe it's just the camera mic as revs don't fall that much at all. It's longer geared than your Indy was!

yellowcab - 14/7/14 at 05:21 PM

Ahhh good point

daniel mason - 14/7/14 at 05:31 PM

You might be right but the car felt awesome yesterday. I'll look into the flat shifter and serif the cut can be adjusted

yellowcab - 14/7/14 at 05:37 PM

Annoyingly I can't even find a video clip or sound bite of my Busa at 1/100th cut… I bought the car with a 1/30th cut, and it was just too slow, and dropped the revs too much...

yellowcab - 14/7/14 at 05:39 PM

Absolutely atrocious sound / wind / video due to passenger holding his phone, but you can certainly here the lack of drop

Video should start from 51s
