Took the car out to give it a good thrashing the other day, all fine and dandy then whilst giving it some full on throttle i let off and pop went the
exhaust, followed by oh s#it the exhaust is blowing now, got back to work on the ramp, off comes the side pod and i found this.
sidepod 1
sidepod
Then this, which took me right by suprise, think i was lucky the car did not set on fire !!!!, now need to make a new one me thinks, lol.
exhaust hole
It must be a Fury thing Joe!
Blame Pants...I did!
i cant blame him for this one, but i did speak to him on the phone that day, so ye, maybe it was him, lol.

If you've got the exhaust in the side-pod they can get a bit toasty. Strange that it blew the side of the can out though!!!!
Holy Moly
this is your lucky day.... I have one of those exhasts going spare for 30 squid. You arrange the posty to pick it up.....offers there
Ps its only got two holes in it....input and output...... Side put is your mod!

If that's an aluminium skinned exhaust (and it looks like it is) then that's not particularly unusual for a Fury - I know of at least 2 others which have done the same. Because it's enclosed it gets pretty hot, and most grades of aluminium get pretty cheesy when warm. Best to use a stainless or titanium skinned exhaust in a Fury side-pod - not aluminium and preferably not carbon either.
I told him to make it out of titanium in the bloody first place! Mind you I was on about the manifold too and ut did start getting a bit expensive
JB?
I like the fury, but that's one of the points I don't like! Looks like your hard driving pushed the temp up until the aluminum failed. Time
for a new non aluminum silencer (SS maybe). Might be worth getting some airflow by the can as well, I think I have seen a few furys with (big ish)
holes along the cill...
I think you had a lucky escape, not much more insulation to go before you reached the GRP, then a large BBQ would have started!..
Come to think about it If I had one I might consider making the cill out of Stainless as well, it's a simple shape so should not be to hard if
you chose thin stainless, then using a few thin layers of Stainless sheet spaced with studding + washers to act as a heat sheild inside+ some airflow
holes.. Should stop BBQ effect, and cope with a blowing zorst...

It's not *that* simple a shape - it's a compound curve which is almost but not quite two conical sections joined end to end. You certainly couldn't replicate it simply by bending some sheet metal round a lamp post...

Im going to make one in stainless now, i should have done it in the first place but the ally one fitted and made a huge difference in sound for track
days.
I dont think i could make a side pod in stainless even though ive been in the fabrication buisness for over 20 yrs, it would be to complex a shape.
mango thanks for the offer but as above, will make one this time.
thanks for the quotes fellas, im just happy me and my passenger are still here could have been turner into a dog, , wooof up in flames
mmm Titanium
(it's worth a full size image )
Isn't this what Gun Gum is for?
I was just about to fit one to my 2.0 Pinto, should I reconsider?

The issue is with enclosed cars (Phoenix, fury etc) not a problem for 7s
is that a gsxr exhaust? If it is, there are versions that have a cat build in at the front, bound to get very hot!
Deffinatly looks a bit toasty. I'd open up the hole in the back end a bit more. How big is the hole at the front?
adrian
hells bells! i've only just noticed how much the rest of the can distorted in front of the hole! that got seriously hot!
glad you and the car survived it!
on a side not, why has that titanium exhaust got ribs welded all over it?
tom
exhaust was a bit erm rippled so to speak, kade a start on the new one this afternoon, will be finnished tomorrow, will post pictures when its done, thanks for some of the comments, i might even put some extra holes in the bottom of the side pod, will see how it goes tomorrow
