As a matter of interest whats the furthest that anyones got with their build without a donor?
my experience - which may not be yours if you built to book - is that you make assumptions that turn out to be wrong, and create a lot of extra work
putting right.

steves gorrit right there, it helps to know stuff like what shape the engine is, steering rack dimensions, where the exhaust comes from, steering column dimensions etc...
basic chassis without the transmission tunnel is what i got before i got the gearbox, then built the tunnel round that :-)
I don't intend to do anything other than build that chassis before I aquire donor.
bescasue of this I am a bit stuck with what I can do now? Anyone have any ideas?
I was planning to have a look at the front suspension. I have tina hubs and am building mcsorley +422 with de-dion.
I have a machine shop
Designing and building a pedal box would probably while away a few hours
Mick
good plan!
Let's see...
You could make your front wishbones.
Make a scuttle.
Make a bunch of chassis brackets, though I think anyone in his right mind would buy them from GTS.
I think I will make a start on the suspension, I think gts brackets. If i needed any more I think I would build a jig and do them myself but its just
not worth the hassle.
I will be doing my de-dion rear end myself though, I cant' really justify the gts price(and very good it is!) when I have the equipment and time
to do it mysel
fot the suspension mountings and wishbone mountings, why not get some box section of the required size with a 4mm wall and cut one face off it - thats what i'm doing, saves loads of time and is nice and stronge already
and not forgetting, each one will be accurate toooo hehe
I thought about that also, I would be quite prepared to but is it really worth the hassle could just buy em from gts, I know i might get slated for not being strictly DIY but the amount of time i would spend making 1 bracket is worth more than £1.35. As I said if there were more to make I might spend a bit of time building a jig and cutting a side from box section
if ya make em all yerself and they fail, you only have yourself to blame
not that gts's would fail - but worse has happened before
+ its the satisfaction of a total DIY job
in an ideal world I would do total DIY and perhaps on the next build i will but that wnet out the window when I bought my grp panels.
I really would like to do a complete DIY build that would be really cool, including grp and everything, but I will save that for when I have more
time!
Cracking website paul, I just wish I had the space to work as you have, I could race you to SVA then WhenI star to build my chassis I will set up
website they are really useful to ppl starting out.

hehe - cheers liam
theres gonna be a big update on sunday as it's engine out of donor car day, and monday it's sheet steel day - which is gonna
be......interesting to say the least lol
are youfitting all this around a job?
when you talk about how quick you are doing everything, I think that if I(or anyone) put their mind to it a lot of work can be don e in a very short
space of time!
i had 2 weeks off work - 1 week was spent recovering from crimbo and the 2nd week was spent doing the chassis, from now on it's a balance between work and kitcar - i work splitshifts so get about 3 hours solid at it a day then another 2 or 3 after work if i aint nackered from driving all day
