Hiya Guys,
I have been trying for a while now to get my front uprights of the sierra. I have taken of all of the suspension and am just left with the uprights. I
have managed to get one of them to move down about 1 inch but cant get it to shift anymore.
Any ideas? So far i have been putting lots of wd40 and twisting and pushing.
I have been told to try and heat it but havent bought a blowtorch so seeing if there is another way
Thanks
Ed
I'm afraid it's more of the same - wd40, effort, skinned knuckes, swearing, perserverence and a sense of humour when all else fails.
Edited to say give it a regular going over with a wire brush to get any debris out of the way that might cause it to jam up

Yep, just takes effort.
I used a rubber mallet for whacking it off. Just watch though, they bouce back in to the bone around your eye socket just when you start to really
hit it hard out of anger.
(Just in case you don't know, it really, really hurts lots)
If you can find a shop that sells it, Plusgas is supposed to be much better than WD40 (I've found it pretty good).
Knock it back up, then start again. Repeat and it should come further each time.
Oh, yes...you need a BIG hammer!
Plus-Gas or Duck-Oil both have better easing properties than WD40.

Not quite sure which bit you're having trouble with from the desciption...
...if you're trying to remove the strut then compltely remove the pinch bolt and knock a cold chisel into the clamp part of the upright to spread
it. The upright will then come out very easily.
... if your trying to remove the ball joint/track control arm then follow the same procedure.
...if you're stuck with the track control rod then just whack it with a big hammer
im also not sue what bit your having trouble with i had both mine off in under 10mins. but then it did only take me 4-5 hours to strip the whole car.
air tools are the way forward
have you droped the engine gb and front subframe? its much easier to strip the car once the engine is out as you can work from inside the bay.
Thanks for the replies, I will try get a picture tomorrow and post on here. I think its the easiest way to explain...
I have taken engine/gearbox/subframe etc.. all out, pretty much all stripped apart from these 2 uprights and the rear of the car
Thanks
Ed
If the pinch bolts are out thats the hard part - the rest just takes a bit of effort
Pic now in my archive
Got them both off, i was being a bit to careful with them i think... just had to hit it hard a few times and it came off!
Thanks for the replies anyway
