Hello to all.
I am in the process of aquiring the various donor bits I need for my Mk indy build and have come across 2 cars that are looking good.
1. a 4x4 sierra estate (LSD, disk rears) registered as scrapped
2. a 1.8 LX J plate 2wd (non Power steering) not yet registered as scrapped
My questions are
If I buy the 2wd as the main donor and for it's ID can I directly mate the 4WD rear diff to the prop and hence have an LSD rear end?
If I decide not to buy the 2wd sierra and just use bits from the scrappy will I end up on a Q plate?
Has anyone got an MK Indy R1 they want to sell me for £50 to save me the hassle and to save you lot the torrent of questions you will probably get?
Thanks in advance
Kev
Get the diff/disk setup from the 4x4 (if you want disks) as it's already scrapped anyway so will you have the plates, VIN numbers?
Use the standard sierra for steering rack/column, front/rear hubs and front discs, prop-shaft and numberous other bits. Much of the 4x4 car and
transmission (bar the final drive is redundant).
Sorry but if you want the LSD you will need to go 4x4 and then the standard also for the rest if you stand any chance of avoiding the Q.
That is what I thought, basically use the entire 2wd car as far back as the prop shaft (using the 2wd prop) then the 4wd from there.
Forgot to mention earlier on that neither car at the moment is mine, they are both at the local scrappy therefore the plates/vin from the 4x4 is a
definate no go.

hmmm - someone keep him talking while I look up scrappy's in huddersfield!!!
I intend to find a 4x4 rear end but am using 2.0l donor engine /gbox etc ... hopefully I will still qualify for an age related plate!
If you are planning on an R1 engined Mk then you will need a custom 2 piece prop as the sierra one will be way too short.
I've got a 2 piece TRT prop between the engine and the rear 4x4 diff. I would imagine the smaller engined Sierras would have lighter steering
and brake components which will be more than capable of stopping a light weight car.
Cheers
