Rivets and spacing
speedyxjs - 7/5/09 at 12:32 PM

Iv done a quick search but cant find anything.
What size rivets and what spacing do i need for the floor? the floor is 2mm electro-zinc coated steel btw

2mm?

Bloody hell.
I would use 6mm or even 8mm rivets at about a 4" spacing, maybe 3".

2mm.... should be good for its anti tank mine properties...

2mm ali sheet yes... 1-1.5mm steel sheet yes

I meant to order 1.5mm but accidentally ordered 2mm but im not too bothered. Its not going to make a huge difference in weight anyway

3/8 rivets, 2" apart!

mind you that was with my ali floor

I dont really know what diameter to use, but I thought the usual reccomendation was to space them at centres of 10 times rivet diameter

I'd have to agree about the size tbh, 4-5mm ones at about 3inch spacing. Don't know about any hard and fast rule, just go with what looks right

Hope my maths is correct...

2x2m sheet of mild steel....

1.5mm thick weighs 47Kg
2.0mm thick weighs 63Kg

2x2m sheet of alloy (grade dependant)

2.0mm thick 22Kg

But if you are fitting that jag engine... no.. its not going to make any difference :p
