A bit of advice needed.
My Dad announced yesterday he had bought a 1.3 Ford Escort (very cheap). I asked him what MK it was, 1, 2 or 3... He had no idea, other than it was
'very old', late 70's early 80's. I asked did he think it was RWD or FWD? He *thought* RWD.
I had dreams of preparing a historic rally car for fun! Got to see it today and no, it's a MK3. My dreams shattered!! Still, it did come with
a heap of free bird poo!
LOL, having a look round it, I reckon it's for the scrappers but it does have a 1.3 engine (yet to hear it, so it could be scrap too!).
I've a couple of pics but I wondering *if* the engine turns out OK, knocking up a wee spacefame and making a wee autotest special. What gearbox
would be strong and would fit the bolt pattern of the engine for RWD?
Are there any bits off it that are useful?
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Ali
Pic from FLICKR
Valencia engine (worst engine ford ever made) and a 4 speed box.
shell may be worth something if it,s 2 door or flog it on fleabay
damn one still lives...scrap it please these were horrible cheap and nasty cars
Service the engine, set the tappets. Remove all parts you may need and bin the rest. Then build your special. Most old school gearboxes should fit.
I suspect I might just scrap the whole shooting match!!
Thanks for the advice,
Cheers
Ali
If you want to do autotest, keep the standard box and put the engine in the back
If its a 3dr mk3 its worth cash, just look on ebay.
I cant remember the last time I see a mk3 and they didnt rust as bad as the early mk4's
I think you need to build one of these:

That master cylinder looks like it might be handy, take a fiver?
Ah my first car
I'd have another one any day. And that's the exact same engine I had too wasn't bad, not exactly powerful but it did me
