Stripping Sierra?
Chaz - 19/4/04 at 07:17 PM

I'm still looking for a suitable 2 litre Sierra for my MK Indy. Once i have it, i know which parts i need, but what should i do with them once their off.

Is there a Web Site with details on what to do with each part. I'm not looking to recondition/ modify, just clean them up and do a bit of maintenance. E.g. Whats the best way to clean the oil grime stuff off an engine?

P.S - Anyone around Lincs/ Notts have a 2 litre Sierra for sale?

Hi Chaz,

Don't have a sierra for sale.
There's an excellent thread on 'electrolysis' for cleaning up rusty parts. For cleaning engines I like petrol then a water soluable degreasant like Gunk.

Where are you?

my web site says a bit about donor dismantling. not a lot, but it might help.

I used gunk and a jet washer on my engine - came up a treat

The firm where my dad works uses a cleaner called Spectroklenz. Its damn good stuff and dissolves off grease and crud pretty quick. Just use a spray bottle to put it on, leave it a few seconds than wipe it off. Though it will take paint off if you leave it on ages, and it will make bare steel rust if you dont wipe it off properly. But then you would oil up your nice clean and shiny parts wouldnt you

Its one of the best cleaners i have used for a while.

Heres a link to a site that sells it in the uk;

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

Put an ad in your local supermarket."Wanted"etc etc.Its how I got a few of mine. You will be supprised how many people want shot of them.Remember most breakers are now charging to take away run of the mill stuff.Try a few local dealers,Some can't be bothered with auctions and so on.But you must tell them you are breaking it.They will not bother if your going to tyre kick and say it wants this that and the other.Again sh1t they can't get rid of through normal channels anymore.

Dave,
Where was that, Gainsborough, Chantry?
Hope you had your locking wheel nuts on and were heavily armed!!

Next you'll be suggesting they drop into the lovely areas local (eg Golden Hine!) and casually ask "who's got a sh*tter they want taken off their driveway"

You might insult someones capri ghia!!
