I am trying to find out which ford capris or sierras are fitted with disk brakes both front and rear.can anybody help.

No Capris that I'm aware of.

As far as Sierras go then it's pretty arbitrary. If I recall correctly anything with ABS has discs. Also, high spec models and a high percentage of late models had them too.

If your donor doesn't have them then it's not the end of the world- I don't think there's a huge amount of benefit in braking terms. Also, you could get the backend off a different car that does have discs. The 4x4 backed has discs and is LSD too!

Benefit of the disk brake models is the altogether better driveshafts with superstrong lobro joints instead of the tripod joints.

So there are some Brum brake Serrias that have Tri Pod drive shafts. Which models have tripod driveshafts, as I'm after those shafts as it happens ?

does the LSD work with either type of driveshaft? in other words, can you have drums and an LSD? i only made one black mark the other day ya see....

F1 mini - as far as I was aware (and I am fairly good on sierras) all the drum braked ones had tripod shafts, thinking about it the possible exception was the XR4i, but I think this may even have had tripod shafts (it certainly had drum brakes)

Why do you want tripod shafts? Why not just use the Lobro shafts which are miles stronger and are a joint which is used throughout motorsport (and as a basis for much more specialised joints) and is also used by other manufacturers like BMW, thus giving a greater choice of available shaft lengths off the shelf (though most too wide for our applications) Also several manufacturers of special shafts for these joints (not shortened ones, purpose made ones)

If you consider them heavy, take a look at the GKN variations on the theme in the Demon Tweeks catalogue. You just turn some of the spare metal off the OD of the joint.

JoelP - the LSD was only used in production with the Lobro joints. I think it may well be possible to swap the stubs over??? but ask yourself why the lobro's were used with the heavier duty back ends, it was cos they were stronger. Yes the Sierra was a lot heavier but if the parts are available and have no downside then I'd go for the stronger ones (as I am doing on my locost and did on my grasser)
