Simpple question - Are these suitable for as a donor car?
yes, they are just sierra's
how suitable its parts are for your build will depend on what your building (and what version or the XR4 it is)

its what i used, if its a 4x4 the front uprights wont be any good to you though.
should have a lsd if its a xr4 too
it depends what you are building really and which XR4 you are talking about
The XR4i is not a bad donor - it has larger front disks than normal and massive 10" drums at the rear. The 10" drums wont work with MK indy
uprights for instance because the handbrake cable won't fit.
The engine is obviously the V6 but if you don't want to use that then you can fit a different bellhousing on the very good closer ratio type 9
gearbox.
The front uprights are fine.
If it is the XR4x4 then it will have discs all round, a LSD at the rear but the front uprights are no good and you'll need a different gearbox
(unless you are building a 4x4 car)
Cheers

is it an early v6 xr4 or the later 2.0 4 cylinder twin cam xr4 that are very rare, and before anyone says they didn't make a 2.0 model, they did as one of the very late sierras, same as they made a 2.0, GT, xr4x4 and xr4, all basicly just a badged up sierra with different colour seat and the badge on the outside.

normal ford, parts bin special!!!!
xr4's are fine, 4x4 are a pain and lots of bits aren't useable.
are you following them on ebay the same as me?

if you use an xr4i i think that the gearbox 1st motion shaft only suits the v6, i'm certain that the shaft is longer than the
'standard' type 9 most car engined locosts use.
comments please maybe i;m wrong.
only an issue if you don't use the v6
^^ but thats easy sorted with a bellhousing and a spacer
or even easier - swap the box for a short one (there is normaly some one around who wants a long one)
fair point but not using either enginbe or gearbox wouldn't a normal sierra be a better donor?
just a thought all IMHO

I hate to say it (as I love my pinto) but even without a suitable engine/box its still an ideal donor for a bike engined car
or if you really can't find a sierra donor - what about a getting a granada like I did
