Need Some Help please
Willuk - 12/6/04 at 07:35 AM

Right, i would really like to start my self build, but am now really confused about which donor to use. i really wanted to get an escort as per the book so i could follow it word for word really (im aware there are some errors which i will look more into) but im realising that finding an escort is going to be difficult!

i have read alot of posts about people using sierra but if i choose to use one how much more diffucult would it be, because to be honest without some sort of guide id probably be quite stuck on where to start.

Advice would be greatly appreciated

if you want to stick close to the book i think most people recommend a cortina if you can't get hold of an escort. although cortinas are now becoming harder to find!

if you go sierra: assuming you take the dedion route to save trouble (IRS is undeniably harder to setup), you can use a book chassis. sierra track is wider by a few inches, so you can either get driveshafts shortened or do the chassis wider (wide dedions arent too easy to find though).

really isnt hard using a sierra, but if you get stuck someone on here will put you right in no time!

I'm using a sierra donor and intend to use a GTS De Dion. GTS also provide wide track wishbones and steering rack extensions to keep the track at the front of the car the same as the rear.
