Cheap/Locost useful fan

Just a quick topic that may be of interest to people. I was persusing the scrapyard at the weekend and noticed that Pug 406's (post facelift) have a niceley sized radiator Push fan that has a 4 bolt radial mounting arrangment that appears to fit very nicely inside a locost nosecone, its also nealty cowled and looks discreet.

I have picked up a couple for my own project and at £5 each you can't really go wrong, there are also dozens of the things in scrapyards now, there were 7 406's in the scrapyard I went to on Saturday.

Just make sure you've got enough space between the fan and front of the nosecone grille when you fit one of these items.

Comes under the heading of 'been done, and made the adjustments'.

Most of the earlier Peugeot fans will fit. You can even unbolt them from the plastic surround, and make a custom mount to fit onto a VW rad, using the 4 holes in the rad tank bosses.

Yeah thats the one, thought it was quite a neat little unit and was surprised at how closely it matched the mountings already on the car.

Thanks Captain Bring Down, without your negative input I would have urged everyone to rush out and buy 50 each without thinking. It was just a note from a scrapyard trip that people might want to look into.

And I posted what I did, from having the experience of a customer handing me one of these to fit, saying 'here's a fan'.

Yes, it is a fan, but it's not a straightforward job to fit. The fan itself ends up on the outward end of things, with the motor against the rad, and the fan in the grille. Or, as I did, put the fan against the rad and reversed the motor wires. The fan blade profile ends up back to front, but the fan cools a hot 2L Zetec from 92 to 82 in a few minutes.

You need a space of near 6" , and a lot of 7 types are close in that area.

When the car comes back, I'll take a pic, just for the touchy persons to see what was needed to be done.

Good find on the fan, and thanks for the heads up on fitting. With some effort (it's locostbuilders!) I'm sure these fans will do a great job at a fraction of the cost of a Spal / Kenlowe / whateverexpensivefanyoucancomeupwith.
