Sierra Reservoir Wiring

Just a quickie. I've got the "low brake fluid sender" wiring in my hand from the brake fluid reservoir and don't know what to make of the wiring diagram that haynes have provided. There are three wires. One brown, one brown and yellow and one brown and green. I expect that one is a permanant live for the test switch on the reservoir cap, one is the earth and one goes to the dash warning lamp. Any idea which is which?

you are nearly right, but there are in actual fact only 2 contacts on the device - one of these has two wires from it.

A live goes to the dash light, so this system is a switched earth. the wire then goes from the other side of the dash light to the sensor on the reservoir. there is a branch from this side to continue the wire to the handbrake. it can then either earth thru the other side of the fluid sensor (if there is low brake fluid), or it can earth thru the handbrake. Hence another way of wiring it could be to have two parallel earths direct from the bulb. The handbrake wire can be replaced with a switch on the dash, to test the bulb and circuit.

hope that helps, Joel.

brown/green goes to the handbrake switch or test switch, brown/yellow goes to the dash light, brown goes direct to earth. The live feed goes to the other side of the dash light. (edit)You beat me to it Joel, but mine does have 3 terminals.

Well, I think that should do it. Thank you both, you are indeed gentlemen.
