Iam stripping my bog standard shed of a Sierra this weekend. Just been offered another one but dont know if it is useful or not.
2.0l 4x4, presumed to be 1991ish. Ive already been warned off the engine and box (reliability problems with DOHC, injection system complicated and wont fit under bonnet, box for 4x4 only), are the brakes and diff useful? Ive been told it could have larger front brakes (260mm??), rear discs and lsd. The brakes were allegedly renewed recently before failing MOT. Does anyone know what the standard spec is?

I have been told that when on the road it was looked after and engine runs OK - may sell it if anyone else could use one. Im going to fit Pinto as i fancy rebuilding / tuning one up

Any advise greatly appreciated. Car is very cheap so may get it anyway.

Keep the rear (lsd!)diff/driveshafts/hubs and brakes etc - ditch the rest......

Unless your using sierra front hubs as well of course......

Are my assumptions right in that it should have rear discs and an lsd?

Ill have most of the bits i need from the other Sierra. Most of the 4x4 bits will be spares. Is the lsd worth good money - if so ill get the car as this will save some cash later. Does an lsd make much difference?

If so these sound useful. Im not sure about fitting rear discs though to such a light car. I did a rear disc conversion to a Mk1 Golf Gti after fitting 16v engine - was a tad overbraked at the rear. I had to turn them down a bit with a restrictor type thingy - made the conversion a bit pointless in the end.

Mind you if the car is as well looked after as ive been told with new brakes put on, in the spirit of locosting it could make financial sense (as long as i dont have a big off on a track and end up needing to do a full re-build!!!)

I'd certainly consider it for the LSD and rear disks but otherwise there isn't much you can use.
You might be able to use the bigger front brakes (260mm) and transplant them onto 2wd hubs but I'm not sure since the offsets might be different.

Engine produces 125ish BHP, may needa bulge for teh plenum..

You can remoe the front diff and just keep the alloy sump, unlike the 2.9 the sump is sealed..

The box can be replaced with astandard RWD MT75..
