useless when it comes to everthing! unknown part!

Hi everyone

I have a kit car which i bought already built as am really useless when in comes to cars, i love to drive them but when it comes to anything mechanical i have no idea!! i Have an mk indy with a zx10r engine in it and have a bit of a problem!

I got it out of the garage yesterday for the first time this year and started it up, after about 10 mins i noticed some smoke coming from under the bonnet and the car cut out. i located the part that was smoking, the car will not do anything now!

I have taken the part out and it seems to be a fuse that has melted inside that was smoking, as i am useless i have no idea what it is or what it does!

It seems to connect to the battery one side and has a plug with lots of wires in coming out the other!

i have taken some pics of it any help or advise would be much appreciated like what it is, what it does, why the fuse may have melted and where to get a new one?

Thanks in advance guys

Karl

Looks like a bike starter motor relay to me.

edit, From my bike days it also powers everything on the bike.

Find the reason for the short before sticking a new one in,

looks like the fuse terminals have corroded which has caused it to overheat. should be able to get one off ebay pretty easily

edit.... btw this is how it all starts next step taking the engine out

Now the next thing you have to do is to take that moped engine out and replace it with a proper car engine otherwise it might just continue to blow fuses

Haha you leave my bike engine alone! I'd change a fuse every day if that's what it takes! Worth it!! :-)
