I have just been given a Sierra 2.9 4x4, and would like to know what parts I need to keep from it for my locost...
I'm not sure what engine I am going to use just yet, so I will keep the Cologne lump. (I'll ask about that later!).
So far, I know I need the following...
Engine - Inc ECU and Loom
Propshaft?
Rear Diff
Driveshafts
Rear Brakes
Handbrake assy
V5 and plates
Is there anything else?

wire from inside (good to scavange)
exhaust to chop up and reuse.
pedal assembly
few others probably...
Front hubs
Rear hubs
Brake master cylinder
Think there is more
It's a 4x4- front hubs are no good unless he wants the drive shaft flanges attached.
Master cylinder will be an ABS version I expect which ain't much use either.

Why not use the ABS system, Ford spent an absolute fortune developing it, and you advocate just junking it, shame on you James. Just because we are building a very basic motor, no reason not to have top of the range brakes.
Stick ABS on a lightweight seven and every time you touch the brake pedal the wheels will lock up. Its a nice bit of kit for a Sierra and thats where it should stay.
Concur with helfire, unless you ballast your seven to match the sierra exactly, ABS is a total liability - expensive too!
I have been in a seven with abs from a 4x4 sierra and it worked very effectively, pulled 1.2g under braking with no lockup from any of the wheels. I
agree it takes a lot of adapting but don't count it out.

Sorry to be pedantic, but id be surprised if fitting ABS made the wheels lock up???
Isnt that what it does away with??!!
Although i suppose the relative bores of the front and rear calipers would affect the brake balance, and hence the ABS might be very twitchy on the
back??

yeah - why should abs be a problem?
Apart from the hassle of fitting it - I have.
The abs from the granada DOESNT LOAD SENSE in any way, it simply has a control box, the master cylinder/valve block and 4 wheel sensors. The back
circuit is in one control loop. Both brakes are modulated in a skid at the same time.
As the system has no idea of load, it doesnt know if the car has one passenger, five, or five and a caravan. So thats a pretty high dynamic range -
like 100% more load and some.
The std granada was pretty light by todays standards - only approx 1250 kilos - I recon my car will come out at 800 approx.
Ive gone belt and braces and fitted a pressure limiter in the rear circuit.
Dont confuse simple abs with dynamic stability control systems that control sideways skids and the like. These would be more attuned to the handling
of a specific car.
The granada system is simple - it just pulses the brake pressure if it senses a wheel lock.
Stephen, must say that I agree with all you have said. Not to sure if you require a pressure limiter though, as I understand it that is what the ABS system does, it pulses the particular brake/wheel that is about to lock up, thereby reducing the pressure to that prt of the system, (may be wrong though, have been known to be).
