Which rad for a Haynes roadster???

I was wondering which radiators are recommended for a Haynes Roadster.

I think they are using VW polo radiators check the haynes roadster forum for the exact mk engine size etc.

Yeah I think you're right the book says Polo, Clio, or similar! I was hoping for peoples ideas based on experience.

Yep the smaller of the vw polo radiators, about £30 new on ebay

Thanks that's what I was going to go with, seen them on eBay! They're about 400mm wide? Does that sound about right?

I used a Clio one which is a bit bigger and fills the nose a bit more. Have a look at the photos in my galleries.

That's a comprehensive diary! Thanks, what year and engine size was the Clio?

I tried to take photos of all the bits I couldn't find photos of elsewhere!

I think it is a Mk1 but can't remember which engine size. Might have some info at home. The only tricky part is getting the 45 degree hose at the bottom out and past the frame rails, it is very tight but is possible.

You can fit a Merc 190 rad but I can't remember what version.

he he, yes I am and the buggers get hot, so the bigger merc rad is what I'll be using.
Started my build but not posted on here but the Haynes forum.

Have you thought about a waterless coolant system -40 to 180 degree so in this country it'll never freeze or overheat!! You can find it on eBay Adams waterless prep fluid and waterless coolant it's £100 for the pair both 5 litre bottles and has infinite lifespan you drain it through a coffee filter or similar into a clean container when you need to, you just keep on reusing it!

Hi,

I have just ordered a Honda Civic Alloy Radiator for my mid engined locost.

One consideration i made was sizing the new rad to the original one. Has anyone considered the engines they are using to the smaller Polo or Cilo Radiators? What i mean is, is it improtant to get a rad of equal capacity to the original donor car? My Fiat Coupe rad would not fit the nose of my locost so had to look at alternatives.....

In my car, i will be carrying a lot more coolant than the standard donor, so probaly could afford a small decrease in rad capacity.... however, i have tried to find a rad that is almost the same size. I do intend running more power than the engine originally produced, so more cooling will be a requirement.

Will let you know what i think of the Honda rad, believe this is a common option in America....
