I've been thinking about building a locost for a while now and have now found a garage so i can start buying steel, donors, and bits! Only
I'm a bit confused. Although previous postings have been a great help i'd still like to clear a few doubts i have up.
Firstly - I'd like to use a 2L SOHC (carb version) sierra donor. What parts can i use from this vehicle apart from the engine/gearbox?
More importantly - Do i need to modify the book chassis to accomodate this engine/gearbox.
Would i be right in thinking that i still need an Escort MK2 rear axle, and steering box and that i'd have to have a propshaft made (or make one
myself) to connect the sierra box to the escort diff?
Also could I use the sierra hubs or do i still need the cortina ones?
Any help will be very gratefully received.

Anyway, assuming you are going to stick with Uncle Ron's plans, then you can use the engine and box, but will need to have these items hanging
over lower chassis rails while building up inner chassis tubes (ie the transmission tunnel).
You will also need to get Cortina uprights/Escort rack/live axle etc etc.
If you want to change things to use more of the Sierra (which I'd recommend you do), it might be worth getting a copy of the Tiger Avon book (by
Jim Dudley) which will allow you to build an IRS chassis and thus use the diff/driveshafts (though you will need to buy/make the rear uprights.
Cortina uprights seem to be fetching ludicrous amounts of money, so you may be better off using the Sierra Mac struts (but removing the strut and
keeping the upright) then buying some adaptors and using them instead.
Whichever route you take you'll need to have a prop made.

Lots of people use this engine for their cars in carb or injection format. You can fit it in the book chassis but if I was doing another pinto I'd make the chassis deeper. I moved the engine bay brace to the other side as well. If you want a live axle you can use a Capri one, easier to find than Escort but it might be easier to use the Sierra in either de dion or independent setup by modifying the back of the chassis. De dion would be easier in my opinion, others may differ.

The descriptions are fine, its the design which is doubtfull, you will see when you get the book!
