ST24 RWD conversion
spiderman - 5/4/15 at 08:26 AM

Just picked up a Modeo ST 24 with 78k miles on it, for my favourite price, free. It needs a N/S sill replacing, 2 new included in the price.
I would at some point like to use the engine for a RWD conversion to fit into a Triumph GT6.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what gearboxes might fit and any other mods I might require to run it in my proposed project.

Cheers
Spider

You can use jag bits like sump and gearbox but the ratios are said to make an mt75 look like a race box. There is a guy selling adapter plates for a lot of fords to take the very cheap and strong rx8 6 speed.

Induction, I would start with what you have. Should be 200 bhp with a few breathing mods and decat.

200 bhp for free free free just by using the oem ecu

Funnily enough I have a MT75 gearbox (not sure which model it's from) and alas had to pay £70 delivered.
Do you have any details on the guy selling adapter plates?

Cheers
Spider.

This is the thread on rx8 swaps, p9cyo is the guy's username.

Induction wise, there is a thread somethere on the Web about a lotus esprit with the jag version fitted, he started using the triumph triple tbs (similar to clairetoo's klde installs) with a thick adaptor plate to get the ports to match and then went on to the st220 plenum to get overhead space. If you go aftermarket ecu tand keep the engine stock hen you need to sort out the secondary butterflies that change the inlet tract length.

You could always use a cosworth t5 gearbox but will need a bellhousing or adaptor plate and the clutch sorting, you may be lucky and be able to use a cossy plate and the st24 release housing as they are both 240mm. Sorting out starter motor might also be fun.

I think there is one of these fitted to a fury somewhere abouts.

I'm currently putting in an AJ30 from a Jag S-type. I think the S-type gearbox will marry up, however you would also need the clutch, flywheel and starter from the S-type to use it. I'm using an X-Type sump as it's a better layout than the S-type, not sure about the ST24 one. Barring that you are into adapter plate territory, it may be worth looking at this bloke:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Type-9-Conversion-Plate-RX8-fit-any-Engine-FREE-POSTAGE-Or-Collect-CHESHIRE-/391103715185?

Inlet wise it wouldn't be too difficult to use some Triumph TB's - in fact I have a set of 6 I'd be willing to sell off. I found them to be too small for the AJ30, but they may be OK for the 2.5 litre version. Possibly an easier approach is to use the ST220 inlet manifold, which is a smaller item I think.

Here's some further food for thought:

I think the guy in the eBay link is the same guy on turbosport, both in Cheshire and similar photos.

I didn't realise he had them on eBay already. Cheers for that. Mind you price has gone up 50% to cover ebay costs.

Well as ever this forum comes up trumps, that's why I like it so much, so much knowledge that people are willing to share.
Many thanks for the info guys, looks like I will have some reading and research to do over the next day or two. Will I ever get the Locost finished? 15 yrs and counting I WILL get it finished this year, I WILL, I WILL, I WILL.

Not sure I have the funds for a set of throttle bodies at the moment, after shelling out so much for the car. But as a matter of interest what Triumph are they off and how much would you want for them?

PM me if you prefer

Many thanks
