Hi, this is my first post on this site so bear with me.
I long ago thought I`d given up this kit car lark but I feel I`m being sucked into it again. I have considered building a locost using a scimitar se5
as a base to the point of using everthing possible down to the smallest item (old school) the rear axle even has a ready made 4 link suspension with
the correct spacings. what I would like to know is regarding the front suspension. I can create the nesersery mounting points onto the chassis (I am a
toolmaker) but how does the suspension components fair with the examination at BIVA. I intend to use clamshell wings.

Clamshell wings will fail IVA as they do not cover the required amount of the front tyre. As for th suspension I can't help there sorry.
The front suspension parts and geometry on the earlier Scimitars was the same as the Troumph Tr it may look old fashioned but is proven
good.
Making tubular wishbone similar to those Spyder made as after market parts for the smaller version of the Triumph suspension used on the Elan will get
rid of any sharp edges.

Not true im afraid, I know of at least 2 westies that have passed with clamshells - unless DVSA consistency is as good as ever!
Mine passed SVA with Westfield clams. I don't think IVA changed the requirements. Mind you I did spend a long time deciding where and how to fit them to meet the coverage regs and I had to spread them wide to cover 185 tyres but in the end, no problem.
I think the bigger concern with clamshell wings is the way they generate lift at speed 
I know what your thinking with regards to using scimitar parts, but I can't help thinking that something like an MX5 donor would be easier these
days....
the MX5 engines are quite a good option, but the 3.0 Essex is a big, heavy lump of iron with very little power to show for it

but if you do it then I do need a half decent SE5 body for my next project....
front suspension is fine with tis double wishbone setup, based on triumph tr6
attention: lower trunion differs from PAS or non PAS cars
rear suspension is also fine, a nice 4 link with watt´s linkage
but the the salisbury axle is much wider than the ford axle in the typical locost.
do you plan using also the 3l v6 engine? its a heavy lump...

Change the SE5 front wishbone lower mounting to SE5a spec (lower roll centre) - sounds like you already have a car, so you don't need to know that the SE5 never came with PAS and the back axle is narrower than the later SE6 on models.
if you use the scimi chassis, unmodified...you will get around IVA, as its a body conversion.
similar the sammio / ribble approach.
but i will guess for a sevenish-body the scimi chassis needs to be modified (outtriggers reomoved)....consecutivley you need to pass IVA
you could try putting a body like a sylva-phoenix, or westfield / lotus eleven body on it....so you could use the unmodified scimi chassis...but this
would involve lots of fibreglass work as all the mentioned bodies are far to short and too narrow for the scimi chassis.
