Hi People.
I've already built one locost, and made quite a grand job of it if I do say so myself, but I've been away for some time and have been
thinking about a mad little project.
I was thinking about a 3.5 rover V8 and 4 wheel drive.
Any recommendation of donor vehicle bits?
Dax used 4x4 Sierra bits in their 4x4 Rush.

What about an (ford era) Jaguar 4X4 into a Reliant Scimitar, a project I would like to do some day when time, space and funds permit.
Once had Range Rover 3.5v8 then later fitted with a 350ci chevy . Loved the V8', but having had a 3.0 flat 6 Subaru recently I would go for
something even madder.

Not v8 but i would consider using an a3 quottro.
Them 1.8T 20v are good for 350bhp with minor mods. Better faster and lighter than an old v8, you just don't get the sound track

Talk to Coozer he is building a V8 Jago monster with plenty of LandLand rover parts going in. He is desperate to build a Midlana so a fist full of fivers might see you both sorted out wit exciting new projects.
you really need a 4x4 Sierra box and front axle, Audi looks great but the engine is in front of the front drive shafts.
Landrover is a very heavy option.

Do the au dos all use haldex? That could either be great or a complete ballache.
Maybe a rotten Impreza as a doner? Hugely tuneable engine and tough as old boots drive train.
IIRC the lower spec Audi's are primarily FWD cars that sense front wheel slip and then feed power to the rear wheels. Higher spec Audi's may be proper 4WD, but from what I've seen tend to cost more. A Subaru would (I imagine being a flat engine) be harder to mate another engine to.

I've been talking to friends today who mentioned an impreza, or even cheaper, and old legacy.
Thinking about making it inspired from the aerial atom. With lovely curves, but in stainless instead of mild steel ;-)
Massively wide and sits in front of the axle, there is a good reason people do not use them.
Would be interesting if you lost the rear drive and put behind the driver.
My V8 project is indeed on hold just cause I can't be bothered ATM... Thing is the rover axles are a bit too monstrous for me and trying to find
some Jimmy ones that don't cost the same as a new car!
I've got the Summit parts catalogue here and V8s over the pond are cheap as chips!
Do not even think of using stainless over mild, it will end in tears!!!
my xtreme is stainless, but a monocoque, I think it is great, very strong, doesn't twist at all I'd say with a v8 in it.
just my 2p worth on stainless!
What I meant was don't use stainless tubes for a chassis.
Seirra 4x4 is a simple system.
Was using this, but now using a bmw zf 8hp70 4x4 auto box with a controller for the front rear torque control.
One advantage of the bmw box is the left side is the front propshaft.
