Hi all,
I have just purchased a part built kit car which has a ford zetec engine in it.
There was no v5 passed on and I will be looking to apply for one shortly but I can’t find any information of the engine number I have.
It has the number stamped / embossed on the engine by the manifold.
Can we identify more information on this engine somehow? I've tried Ford but suspect they have put their staff on furlough now.
To get this through IVA by the DVSA I need to establish it’s age, cc size and power details as at time of factory supply.
Someone also had clearly pinched the catalytic converter at some time prior to me picking this up and I am not sure if there has to be a specific cat
or I can use an after market item that will fit this kit car project. E.G. a joint cat/backbox or something similar.
Kind regards,
Richard
The engine number if it had one will be on the flat surface near the crank position sensor.
It could be near impossible to read or completely missing.
If it's missing the engine could be a new crate engine or a new replacement engine that the donor received mid life.
The dealer swapping the engine was meant to stamp the old number onto the new engine. Most didn't as time is money and the punter was never
going to know.
I have the number of it and it ends BD
That won't be the engine number
It's embossed on the head by the manifold so presumed it was
A Ford engine number would be stamped on an early engine and laser etched on a later one.
It starts with the engine code. Then a space. Then two letters / numbers this is the engine age ( month and year ) then the engine number then a
symbol so nothing else can be added. Some are like a W on its side.

This is not my pic but it shows where the code should be.
This is not original as its been stamped upside down.

Thanks, mine says 958M-6090-BD
Is your example on the intake side or Exhaust side? I'm too tired to tell lol
That's exhaust side.
The embossed number your looking at is a part number.
The 95 bit suggests its a silvertop engine ?
Oh ok. Thanks.
I'll have a better look tomorrow and see if I can find the other numbers.
I've heard of silver top but my last kit cars were R1 based and Mx5 based so I have no knowledge of ford stuff since pinto's.
Out of interest. What's it going in ?
It's in a luego that I'm helping a guy and his dad with.
They live near me and it's their first kit car and they bought it but I think the guy that they got it from wasn't overly helpful or
accurate with it's details.
As I've done several kits I offered to help so am trying to find details for them as it might be coming to me for a bit to help with other areas
of the build.
Ive got a luego to do next
Nice. I liked the shape.
Shame they vanished.
