Does this sierra sound about right?

It's on ebay at the moment starting bid of £ 50

E-reg 2.0 sierra estate

I'm guessing that at that age it's probably sohc and not injection but I don't know for certain.

It's done 142000 miles though. How much could you reasonably expect out of an engine?

No tax but the ad says it's a runner ...
Opinions? Still four days left on the auction.

i paid £50 and £40 for my 2 sierras, so to me it sounds about right. i wouldnt tend to worry uch about the engine as such, as im a seven type car, due to the light weight of them, its not putting much load on the engine - but i would make sure that it is a decent runner - cuz it might cost a bit to fix. things like blue smoke dont seem to be much of a problem, but rattles etc might be more serious.
im not sure which diff comes on the 2.0 estate, someone here will know sure, and its worth making sure if it is disc or drum braked rear end.
tuning for the 2.0 pintos seem to be very well proced compared to zetecs and alike.

I know that the diff on a 4x4 estate is half an inch wider than on a saloon 4x4, not sure if this applies to open diffs though.

I have an Estate and Saloon diff (both Lobro bolted shaft types) side by side and they are identical!

There were 7 inch and 7.5 inch available, the 7.5 inch was on cosworths and some scorpios (I think the 24v ones) but certainly on sierras there were only the tripod type diffs and the lobro type ones (obviously with different ratios and lsd/non-lsd)

Hmm must be some variation in the models over the years because I know that some (I thought all) 4x4 Sierra estates had a 7.5 inch diff.

i scrapped a drum braked (open diff) estate last week and it had a 7" diff too.

NO sierra estates were fitted with a 7.5" diff, I have the Ford info to hand, the only sierras with this diff were the Merkur XR4TI (not sold in Europe officially) and the 2wd Cosworth models, plus the XR6 (and maybe the XR8?) south african models.

the rear drums are an inch bigger on the estates.( i think they are 8" instead of 7"

Just being daft now but how do you know they are 7.5"??

There are not actually many external clues until you try to fit one to a 7" crossmember, and it wont fit!!

Well I've only gone and done it. It's sitting in the garage.
I drove it back from kent and it runs fine. The gearbox seems O.K. The engine doesn't belch smoke or make any funny noises. It is going to need a bit of tlc though.

Step two is getting the haynes manual. There seem to be two sorts though. One is called the owners workshop manual while the other is called the service and repair manual.

Whats the difference and which one do I want?
