Hi,
Has anyone used/thought of using the Peugeot 205 1.9GTi or 405 Mi16 engine for a 7 style car?
I would like to use the Mi16 engine as it's all alloy construction and 160bhp standard power output makes it a far better option than a hulking great
Ford Pinto engine. The problem is finding a suitable gearbox to mate with it to give a rear wheel drive set-up.
Any suggestions or ideas????

Pardon my ignorance but aren't Peugot's French? They capitulated in the war you know, burnt our sheep and wouldn't buy our beef! Oh and they smell of
garlic and use less soap per head of population than any other European country. Need I say more!
The voice of reason enters the debate!
Cheers for the BL tip, I'll look into it!
The Pinto engine isn't bad, the Peugeot is just better - by far.
locodude - It may be French, but........
1. It's lighter than any other readily available engine.
2. As standard it's more powerful than any other readily available engines.
3. It has greater tuning potential than any other readily available engine.
4. At least it's not German, Japanese or American!
German, Japanese or French NO. American YES. They were on our side. I bet you're a young whippersnapper with no thought of the History of our fair Isle. There are people who died so you could put a Pinto or X-flow in your car and you are virtually spitting on their graves!!!

Cheers

Oooohhh!!, they never let you forget do they, DOH!
The trouble with the Pug motors is that they lean towards the drivers side of the car when mounted north/south, as well as the exhaust which also ends
up on the drivers side. As the steering column needs to be there to, room can be quite tight.....
I have seen a sevenesque car with an MI16 engine in, but IIRC it was left hand drive.
Gearbox wise you could look at using the gearbox and bellhousing out of a Leyland Daf 200 series van (latest model) which is the Rover R380 gearbox
(designed to take V8 abuse) mated to the 1.9 Pug diesel motor, the same bell housing configaration as the petrol motors.
Also, not so long ago, HotRod oval racers used Pug motors, which more than likely ended up on Ford gearboxes, so someone somewhere can probably supply
a bellhousing conversion.

Hi nick,
if you check out the archives in the engine section-turbo diesel there are a few answers there! i'm building a diesel but if the petrol
bellhousings are the same then there is the BL gearbox as mentioned above or the diesel FSO polonez gearbox. I'm using the fso puerly because it was
the first one that i found.
If you want some pics of the diesel lump in position let me know and i'll E-mail you some.
good luck
