Hi all, this is Chris' Dad hijacking his name. Driving home from Stoneleigh Yesterday evening, brain started working.(Chris was asleep, no one to talk to).
Has anyone thought of using a Porsche 924 as a donor? Cheap enough on e-bay. Also what about a Volvo 340, live axle etc. I have to keep one step ahead, Chris is already talking about the next one he builds and he's only been at it 4 months. The chassis should be rolling next week.

But the Porsche 924 uses a donor engine itself don't it..............

340 dont have live axle , rear gearbox , but youll end up sitting on it , as its in front of the diff .

If I had a 924, I think I would put a V8 or modern 2L engine in it rather than use it as a doner

.....to much wieght over the back end.Even more fun in the wet.As planned,most Lsis's are 50/50 weighted.I wouldn't want 30/70.....

hmm , i guess more like 40/60 which is an ideal setup for traction .

why did westfield bother developing the FW400 ?

Problem with the 924 is the length of the transaxle - it would require a long rear end unless you want to sit very high!

Quite apart from the mechanical issues with the transaxle, the 2L 924 uses a VW / Audi engine (seen lurking in the VW LT28 truck among others).

In the Porsche with fuel injection it makes 125hp. By todays standards not particularly special.

It is generally considered by those that know about these things in Porsche, circles, that the engine is not particulary easy to tune much up on this either!

IMHO a Zetec or something would be better.

I would consider changing the engine in my 924 for extra performance, but the car is in lovely condition and all original including the paint, so will keep it as it came out of the factory I think.

hmm , the volvo 360 which used the 2 litre engine , can be fitted with B230 - 136 hp .

of course that leads to bigger things when you get em turboed etc
