Indy donor options

Hi

This is my first post and also being a first time builder I need some help/advise.
I am planning to build an Indy using either a 2.0l Zetec / MT75 or 2.0l DOHC / MT75 straight from the sierra donor. But from reading various posts things have started to get confusing!
My original plan was to use the 2.0l DOHC and MT75 box from the k plate sierra that I brought as a donor. However, after reading round it appears that tuning parts are far and few for these engines and also it seems quite large in size for an Indy as well as parts being pricey.
So my next option is to source a pre 95 zetec (to avoid the need for a cat).
I would be grateful if anyone out there can advise on the pro/cons of both options, as using the Zetec option is starting to seem a bit daunting since MK have said that it would need a new third party ECU etc or converted to carbs.
Is it possible to use the original ford ECU and keep it injected? Ideally I would like to just remove the Zetec from the donor, clean it up and put it in the Indy as is.
Any guidance would be a great help.

Thanks

I'm not sure that the MT75 will fit the tranny tunnel - i'ts bigger than the type 9 I think.

The zetec is a popular choice.

You can have a lot of fun with a Pinto too - a bit of tuning can see very healthy power output.

I guess a lot of people on here will say bin the car engine and go bike anyway,

Whatever you decide good luck with your build

Cheers

i think that for the money you will need to put in for a Zetec item..including ECU etc.

you better could buy an 98 Bike engine..

the handling of them should be much better as for car powered ones..

Depends what end result you want regarding CEC or BEC.

Pinto is great for cruising... and holding on to your license!

BEC - they should put a government health warning on them!

The zetec is a good option for day to day driving, just as easy to drive around town as on the track. I don't suspect mine would be any different in performance to a blade engine car if you look at the power /weight ratio, and what it losses out in the cornering stakes to a BEC it probably makes up for by being easier to drive. The only problem you will have is getting the instal done without spending over your budget, it can be done. If you budget is tight and you want a car engine I would go for a good all round car with a Pinto rather than a built to cost zetec car.

PS my Indy uses a MT75 g/box.
