Have I bort a lemon ?
big_wasa - 12/6/05 at 01:31 PM

I really wanted some capri 4 spoke alloys for my project and picked up 4 id won on ebay ..They came with no nuts ..I have some brand new nuts(capri flat washer type) but they in no way fit the alloys..The alloys have a huge hole of about 20mm and a small taper .Looks like bugger all to hold wheel on to me..

Question have I bort a lemon Or have I got the wrong nuts..
When I say lemon I suspect that someone has drilled the alloys out to match the nuts? all 4 wheels are the same

Can anyone show me a pic to put my mind at rest before I carry on shot blasting them all....

my sierra alloys come with tapered holes in them - the wheel nuts take a 19mm socket, and have a kind of tapered washer to locate to the wheels.

hopefully that will help.

the wheel nuts you have dont look like any of the 3 ford sets i have, all of mine are tapered - including a set i bought with aftermarket wheels.

All the best,

Tom

you have nuts for RS alloys, capri laser nuts are tapered the same as sierra,

Your nuts are the wrong shape - you need tapered one's. I've have three Capri's, but I've never had nuts like those even with the same looking wheel (1981 - Capri 2.0S).

Get the different nuts and you should be ok.

I can see the offset now, get some taper nuts and you'll be o.k. The hole in the rim is about 20mm but the wheel locates on the centre boss and the taper centres the stud.

They look pretty lemon coloured to me

You need the capri laser nuts, not RS ones as you have.

Hi they are 13x6jxch19...

I was under the impession the RS wheels and the Laser wheels were one and the same.I know the fiesta wheels being fwd had dif ofset also know they did a 7" version... Looks like my mistake I was under the impresion there should be more metal around the stud? or bigger tapper?

Im pleased as I have a set of pug 1.9 gti wheels that I moded to take the nuts in the pic ,so they could be mounted on ford studs.

Ive had one of those weeks(had my tin-top spanked) and assumed the worst

So what nuts do I want? Standard ford alloy cone type 60 deg tapper?

im sure the RS alloys had a steel insert , these can come loose and cause vibration , maybe you have got those with the wheels ?

big_wasa - 12/6/05 at 02:52 PM

didnt the RS wheels have no inserts ? like the pug wheels .Hence the flat washer type nuts?

Escort RS Wheels had a flat nut

Capri Laser (which you have) have a tapered nut.

I'd second Speedshack in West Drayton, plus I *know* they've got a full set of bolts in - I was in there at 5.00pm yesterday asking a very similar question.

Just tell them Capri Laser onto Sierra / Mk II Escort hubs and they'll give you the right ones.

About £2/throw I think, though so £32 the set.

I found 15 at my local scrapyard, Jolsen found the 16th!

They are quite common, they are on Sierra Ghias, Escort Ghias, Capri's and many more I am sure

I seem to remember back in the late 70's when I had a set of that type of alloy wheel, that they had no taper, the nuts - had just a flat seat??????

Those would be the true "RS" alloys not the "laser" ones. They look the same but have slight differences - the biggest being the nuts.

Got the nuts for my laser alloys from Lolocost. £1 each.

Beware if they are the ones I think they are I am pretty sure the taper isn't right for the Ford alloy wheel --

Check out http://www.domsat.co.uk/pages/wheels.htm

If you look just over half way down at the picture of the three wheel nuts you want the one on the left. Known as an RS taper nut. They have a tapered collar on them that is free to spin. They are used on most XR/RS Fords.

Yep, they're the same as the ones I've got from Lolocost. They fit fine.
