Does anyone know what the diff ratio is for a Sierra 2.3 D L estate?

I have been told that the saloon is 3.38 but on some models the estate has lower gearing (higher numerical ratio than the saloon).

I think most 2.3D were fitted with the 3.38... Like mine http://www.mnrvortxr1.co.uk/preppgtwo.htm

Some have found the early estate diesels with 3.14 though... Gold dust though.

The only way to really tell is from the tag on the diff. the code on the VIN plate should give you a good idea if it's not been changed.

Box 10 - Axle
M=3.14
A=3.36
U=3.38
V=3.62
3=3.64
D=3.92

A quick search on diff codes will help.

isnt that u and v the wrong way round?! it is, v is 3.38 and u is 3.62.

Thanks for the replies guys but can anyone confirm which is the correct code U or V for a 3.38 diff.

I went back to the earlier posts but the link given did not work for me.

I had also heard via Marc Norden that some of the 2.3Ds had a 3.14 but for the 1.6 petrol models the estate is lower geared (3.92) than the saloon (3.62) so I was concerned there might be a similar situation for the 2.3D.

I am also building an R1 engined Vortx RT though as I have no space for a donor car I have bought most of the bits off MNR but the diff is proving a problem so having to look at other options.

i can assure you, i have broken cars with both U and V on the chassis plate, U is definately 3.62 and V is definately 3.38. The best way to be super sure though, is to find a 2.3d and look on the vin plate. It will almost certainly be V, and equally, will definately be a 3.38 or (more rarely) 3.14 diff.
