Dont think it was , they were a late 80s jap import into new zealand , the best thing is they were 12a turbo , if they are in the uk they would of been called a 929 I think

nsu ro80

altho , if you get the right cosmo import youll have a nice triple rotor and single turbo a la 20B - a nice 450 hp !!

A few cars have had rotaries there was a Citroen that had one, also a Lada but I think they all were FWD.

IIRC the NSU RO80 came along before Mazda started on their rotary engined cars. Not sure if they sold the rights to Mazda or not? I seem to remember something of the sort when I bought an RX 7 back in '82. Great little car.

Norton even put a rotary engine in a bike. See here

Most of the Citroens were recalled and crushed. The Ladas were rwd and mostly a copy of the Mazda stuff. Lada even built some four rotor powered tanks!

The only really decent source for rotary engines is the Rx-7. Most everything else is too obscure (Lada, Citroen, etc) or unreliable (NSU, early 70s Mazda).
