I have been looking for a donor for a few weeks in the Edinburgh area. I have not even had the sniff of an escort, cortina or capri and the only
sierra I have found is in a scrappy I hope to see it tomorrow but I distinctly get the impression he will be looking for well into the 3 figures for
the whole thing.
Anyone suggestions as to where I could get something at a sensible cost around Edinburgh?
TIA

If you can't find anything why not look further south as you may find a car with MOT & a bit of tax. Then you can train it down to wherever and drive it back.
I presume your looking for a MK2 escort... Which are now pretty hard to find for locost construction anywhere now. I've used A1 autobreakers in
Loanhead before. A couple of years ago when I was in there a lot you could take your own tools to dismantle stuff. They have taken to money grabbing
recently though and they agree on a price after you've restled out the starter you want etc.
I picked up a couple of bits from the small scrap section @ Bernard Hunter as well. Don't know if this still exists someone said it had
closed.
Thanks
JC
There are still sierra's croping up the the scotads green paper up in the aberdeen area.
Try findlaysons in musselburgh, or there is a breakers yard in dalkeith. Aviod sports car breakers you would be cheaper buying new. If you want to travel further afield campbells in bathgate/armadale is reasonable. In all honesty i think you will struggle to find any cortina/escort2 or capris
If you have the transport then defo come down south .Capri's and Sierra's often go for under £50 As for mk2 escorts and cortina's
.Youve got bob hope of a complete one for less than £300 .
To be honnest I wouldnt bother with a donor..Just collect the bits as you can .It will cost a bit more in time and money but you will pick up the
bits you want easier .
Go a Sierra off e-bay a couple of weeks ago.. cost me £41 quid ( it was an automatic..!) and I found £1.50 down the back seat.. so it only cost £39.50... Oh and it was T&T!!.. In Edinburgh!!
Sportscar breakers have 3 sierras in at the moment, 1 4x4. they all have rear discs dont know if they are slippers or not he wants £75 + vat for the whole setup
I saw an abandonded (as far as I could tell) Sierra in a field near Dundee last week. G reg 2.0 DOHC with only 55k on the clock.
I have found a possible donor. It is an abandoned restoration of an MG midget with a recon 1275 A series engine. I know this won't make the
fastest locost in the world but it looks like all the essential bits will be there. Anyone know any reason why I should not put this in a standard
McSorley locost chassis?

check the adtrader there are 2 sierras on that at the moment near motherwell £100 and £150 should be able to get them a bit cheaper.
Midget is very, incomplete no external panels, no doors, no interior various other bits missing and I think restoration abandoned due to problems with
repairing the main shell so it would not restore at a feasible cost. I thought it might be interesting to build a locost super seven replica.

You can buy new bodyshells for Midgets, but if it is as bad as you say I would think it could make an interesting donor, and reasonably authentic for an early Lotus 7 replica.
