hi all, was thinking of starting a locost...
I already have a 1.6l (bored to 1.7l) from a cortina mk2 (engine similar to escort mk1 and 2). can I use this engine? and would an escort mk1 be a
good donor?
hope it can be done... managed to obtain: BUild your own sportscar... and i rly want to start 1!
thanks guys
You can use that engine no probs.
Good luck finding a mk1 escort !!!! most people now use Sierra's for all their bits as escorts are a little hard to find now
Cortina engine should be fine.
Better finding a MK2 escort if you can...
Take a look on my website if you want to learn a bit about donors...I am just too lazy to type it all out here again!!
Oh and...welcome to the nut house
David
thanks guys.... actually i can find escorts at £100!! (im not in the UK... im from Malta) we still use these classics!
a porb is that its easier to find a mk1 than a mk2!... why is a mk2 better?

ok...
another thing.... is there a substitute gearbox to change the standard 4gear??
Sierra 5 speed box should bolt straight onto a crossflow engine.
I've got to admit i couldnt believe the amount of mk2 escorts and mk3/4/5 cortinas there are on the greek islands, and still in use every day.
good luck with the build
thanks mate....
my dad has a cortina mk2!! not used everyday though! they're quite frequent over here also!
another thing... promise is the last....
is it difficult to change the rear drum breaks to disks?

mmmmm ok!
will ask around abit more!
thanks guy for your help! will be back def.!
was talking to a guy today... he said i'd better look at a Ford Capri rather than an escort as a doner since engine it has the same but they have better breaks... is this true?
Capri is a bigger car than the Escort so the brakes are almost certainly better.
Its not worth changing the rear brakes to discs on a car as light as a Locost, they stop just fine as they are mate.
