ST200 engine - Going Cheap?
bilbo - 20/1/06 at 05:10 PM

Someone thought it was a good idea to bolt an ST200 engine into a mk1 mondy.

I can think of something much more interesting to put it in

Great engine - Shame for it to go to waste, but I'm not quite ready yet to start buying donors

Can think of a whole bunch of other thngs to do with it too.

I likey Mondeos though

Bit strange he went to that hassle, when all he had to do was change the exhaust and inlet manifolds on the stock V6 for the ST200/import SVT ones from the states.

Is that the only difference? I heard somewhere the heads were different also? I could be wrong?

Nope, no difference in the heads. The cams are different if my copy of Microcat is to be believed, but the heads have the same part numbers.

Would actually have been cheaper to go for a 3.0 conversion. A split new 3.0 bottom end from Ford in the states is $950 the last time I checked. Slap on 2.5 heads, stick in some composite headgaskets (as the 2.5 has 45cc heads, and the 3.0 has 52cc heads, so the compression ratio goes up to 11:1 - composite gaskets needed to bring it back to ~10.5:1) and you have a potent engine.

Thanks for that Dave.

Oh dear, yet more engine choices for me to consider

Its worth bearing in mind that you can't use the original ECU if you transplant the engine (I tried) There are so many security related sensors which it won't see and it will just sit there and refuse to co-operate.

I ended up getting an MBE ECU and a custom engine loom - v.expensive.

Ahhh, it's all down to what you know, not how much

Like, the availability of PATS keys so you can disable PATS to run aftermarket chips, and knowing just what is/isn't needed, and which model years to pick

I [mis]spent a lot of time around FWd Fords

Where were you when my wallet was having open heart surgery
