Suitable donors?

I'm considering building a mid-engined locost type car with bike engine power using a chain drive diff.

I need a donor for the other parts however (hubs, brakes, steering column, diff). How does a Fiesta mk3 sound (1989-95)? Does anyone see any major problems with it?

Are brake upgrades available, can you get LSD versions, etc. Info on the net is limited. Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dom

One major problem would be the fact that it's front wheel drive. so hubs useless (unless used at the back), which makes rear brakes useless. Diff is in the gearbox, so not much use either. Steering column may be handy though, but why break an entire car just for a column!
Sorry it's not better news - someone correct me if I'm wrong - but you'll need a custom diff with a sprocket (available from various sources), poss Sierra front uprights - converted for wishbones (or Cortina), Sierra steering rack (prob. shortened), Sierra rear hubs with custom hub carriers, custom driveshafts plus a lot of enthusiasm

On the plus side, you are NOT alone. People on this site have done such things (not me though) and it's not impossible. (just junk the Fiesta!)

thanks for your reply... some food for thought

my intention was to remove the diff from the gearbox, convert it to chain drive (similar to the sylva riot), use the fiesta front uprights, hubs and driveshafts on the rear and either sierra/cortina/capri front upright, hubs and discs, and utilise the steering column

my concerns however are:
- availability of a lsd
- brake upgrades if i potentially use a second set of fiesta uprights and hubs

what other donor(s) would you recommend?
