hi
i am new i have a g reg 1800 carlton, could i use it-or is it a nono, any thoughts?
Bike Engines are for girls
Vauxhalls are driven by middle aged men,
I should know ive got a Vectra,
Northy on here has the 8v vx though its a 2ltr - the blocks are the same and the head is very nearly identical (depending on which version of that
engine)
Ned.
Thanks, anyone care to point me in the direction of
a-a good chassis builder
b-a kit manufacturer that can accomodate my lump
and Im not driving around in a car with a bike engine you lunatics
careful what you say about bike engines - a lot of people will get protective of them
all the usual suspect can sell you a chassis that this engine will fit into with the right engine mounts. Northy's is a tiger avon though i
personally wouldn't go that route. A Stuart Taylor, MNR, MK, MAC1 or GTS (listed in reverse alphabetical order ) would all be suitable. If you
don't have welding facilities ask if they have a set of pattern engine mounts for your engine or you might have to get the engine to them in
order for them to make the mounts for you. As for the rest do a search there is loads of advice on previous threads about which chassis, what
questions to ask etc etc etc.
Ned.
I'd try and go the extra mile and squeeze a redtop in!
You won't be dissapointed! - I had a C20LET whilst I know its the turbo version - it was an ace engine!
And GSI Astra's etc - used to take some catching
Yep, agreed, BUT, if you put the 8 valve in first and get it all sorted, you can very easily swap to the 16v XE later on, as gearbox, sump etc etc etc
will all just swap over directly, as Ned says, the engine blocks are basically the same.
Sump-wise the Carlton one is no good as the well is at the front and too deep, but you can cut the flange off the sump and weld a new base into it.
