I am going to look at a potential donor tomorrow evening, just asking for some advice on what to look for.
I plan to build a MAC#1 ZR with 2.0 Zetec (or Pinto) engine.
The donor details I have are:
H reg Sierra with 1.8 Carb engine, manual steering and it's just failed it's MOT. The milage is over 100K, clock reads 20,924.
I'll check it has the type 9 gearbox (with reverse top left) once I see it. And make sure I can get the V5.
What else do I need to check and look out for?

I don't think there's a lot wrong with the MT75 box - providing it fits the MAC#1 chassis.
If you can drive it the diff and gearbox should be quiet, and check the steering column is not damaged by attempted theft etc. you might want to use
the steering lock so get the keys.
You will be reconditioning most of the running gear and brakes so don't worry too much - just get it cheap

Money under the seat !
You'd be suprised, old bangers don't tend to be cleaned up that well when for sale.
Only found a pound in mine but I've heard of some real finds.
£2.14 spread around the iterior of my donor Sierra
boy i must have been lucky 8 pounds 75 pence - plus the guy told me when he was cleaning it he had already removed around 20 quid! Damn!
