Donors (again)

Hi Guys,
I want to start to build a Locost, roughly to Ron Champions spec, however Mk1 / 2 Escorts are far too expensive now. Does anyone know of a suitable list for roughly equivalent alternatives that aren't going on ebay for several k?
I've been reading though the forum and I hear some Capris and Sierras are ok, with the right rear axel and gear box. If anyone can give models that would be great.

Cheers,
Jon

If, and its getting to be a bit of an if, but they can be found, a cortina is in my opinion the best donor too find for a home built locost, it as everything you need too complete the build running gear wise.

Hi,

Thanks for your replys, I think I'll try and source a rusty Mk5 Cortina, as they seem to be going quite cheap on ebay. (and I guess a lot cheaper elsewhere). As this is my first build I'll use Ron Champion's design, as there are loads of pretty pictures.

I think I saw you whizz past me the other day robocog, about 11.00, Wednesday, on the way into Gosport. Nice car!

Thanks again,
Jon

Cortinas and Capris are still in plentiful supply if you want a live axle. Otherwise a sierra is your best bet.

Still need to find those elusive cortina uprights if you want a 'book' front end though. Obviously no problem if you can get a complete cortina for use as a donor!!

PS Welcome to the nuthouse

Up here in the north east Sierras are getting hard to find, never mind Cortinas or Capri's!!
