theohighland - 25/7/06 at 07:11 PM

would anyone be able to tell me what other (hopefully cheaper and more readily available) rear drums i could get for an escort axle, and what, if any, other types of calipers fit front cortina hubs

cheers, theo

also.... does anyone know of a smaller sized (and therefore probs power) altenator as im using a dohc engine and at the mo the altenator wont let me fit the engine in the chassis!

Not sure about brakes, but from experience Japanese Motors have small alternators.

Most of the Birkin folks over here use Suzuki alternators.

no electric windows, heated rear screen aircon fans etc, fit the smallest one you can find... so basic car such as a micra and see whats under the bonnet.

As long as it can keep up with the lights and small engine draw you are fine.

Princess 4 pot calipers will fit Cortina hubs.
Not sure whichother Frds were fitted with M16 calipers but you could try Mk II Granada and Mk II Capri as starters

Of course, there are also several aftermarket calipers available to replace the M16s, such as Wilwood, Raceleda, etc. These are definitely not cheaper, though!

I think you will struggle with any alterator to get clearance for the steering coloum.
I'm using the same engine.
Heres my solution. Rescued attachment engine.jpg

I fitted GIANT 3" wide drums from a 2.8i Capri to my Striker with standard 13" wheels. They filled the space nicely and the braking performance was superb. They pull the back down nicely when you chuck the anchor out.

Bought all the bits brand new from GMS and my local Ford dealership. (a few years ago now mind, but this century)
