You've most probably heard similar questions day in day out for the previous umpteen years of your live, BUT, if I was to get my hands on a cheap
as chips XR4I (almost complete,except water pump) how much is useable for my so far not even started locost.
(friend is clearing out a rather large amount of cars ,bikes, bits and alike to make room for more junk)
I believe is has a LSD, and the V6 shoud fit in ????
Thinking of using MK chassis.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, as soon this vehicle will be piliaged by the rest of his skiprat mates.
i would suggest you speak to Martin at MK to see if your engine will fit but the LSD sied of things will be fine if you tell them what you plan.

The XR4i does NOT have an LSD - and uses drums. The XR4X4 DOES and has discs.

We've discussed this before!
Some XR4i have discs. I'm looking at one now!
Fitting the V6 in is ceratinly possible- see http://www.locostbuilder.co.uk but it will probably need a bonnet bulge.
Not 100% but I believe you're better off with the 2.9 than the 2.8 as I *think* the plenum chamber may be lower (or atleast easier to move- I can't remember exactly what someone said about it).
If you've got the money there are engines with better power:weight ratios though if performance if what you're into!

Powers not the be all and end all, but I'm new to this, and was looking for something that I could use most of the bits from so that they
wouldn't need TOO much adapting for them to fit.
Also CHEAP IS GOOD. The whole car might only cost me £50.
And the 2.0 pinto seems to be, how can I say this without insulting people, COMMON !

My thinking is that a 550KG car with 100BPH is ok, but maybe a 580KG car with 150BHP might be better ( sound nice too )
Still thinking about it , but I think I might as well get my hands on the car anyway.
Is anyone else trying this option ?
I'm hoping for around 600kg (or less) with 180-bhp on tap.
I asked before about xr4x4 donor and the answer i got was the engine, steering rack and rear end were ok but forget gearbox, prop, front uprights as
4x4 ones are more hastle - go for standard sierra ones and use the v6 if that's your thing (I'm going the vauxhall route)

I am near enough 100% certain that no 1983-85 V6 Xr4i's left the factory with discs on the rear. An LSD WAS an option but retained the drums. If
you find a Xr4i with discs on the rear then someones already done a conversion on it!
The later 90's 5 door 2.0l twin cam xr4i may have discs on the rear, I don't fully know the spec of that model.

Just spoke to MK and was told that they don't recommend the V6, better off with a 2.0 pinto !

Ford Duratec 24v V6 - The mk1 mondy's are cheap and plentiful so sourcing a decent v6 out of one wouldnt be a problem. 170 BHP as standard. Same
as nearly all ford engines - bellhousing pattern to engine the same, will take rwd boxes ok etc etc.
I was also looking into a nissan 200sx 1.8 turbo installation - 168 BHP standard upto 200 with few mods etc.
That nasty thing called available budget again...
