Fiat coupe turbo 20v engine?

Would the above be suitable for an engine fitment - a mate of mine has just restyled 3 corners of his car in a spin (write off) but the engine is still ok.

Gotta be worth having a go at something different if you can get the motor off the insurance company at the right price...

Not heard of anyone mating this engine to a RWD box, but agree with Hippy that it must be worth a go, should make a mighty fast seven. Try some fishing on the net, someone out there may have info on a RWD converion.

Good Luck

as wadders mentioned, turning the engine round to rwd will be interesting, don't know what gearbox options there are, the last resort I guess is to have a bellhousing made to mate to a type 9, they do this for vauxhall 16v's.

It's recconed to be a pretty good engine I believe, what you will have to think of as with any turbo engine is that you've got room and that you can make a suitable manifold. Should be good if you do decide to go for it.

The transverse engine Fiat/Lancia motors (SOHC's, twin cams, Integrales, Uno Turbo's etc) use to fit the RWD boxes from the 131/132 Mirafiori. These are a little thin on the ground though.

The Lada Riva box has been used as a substitute in the past as it's derived from the same Fiat 124 roots. Lada's and FSO's have been fitted with Fiat/Lancia engines to much amusement all round. (See http://domain433949.sites.fasthosts.com/website%20pages/lada.htm)

I can't imagine FIAT would have radically changed their gearbox connection arrangments as they're not out-sourcing engines (yet) so there's a good chance of it fitting your 5cyl.

Cheers,

Neil.

The box in a Lada is the same as a Fiat 124 but to put the HP through it from a 20L Turbo will first of all rip the clutch to bits and also take the gearing apart. They used to fall to bits in the original 124s.
131 boxes are still out there. Have a look at my photos for 131 box onto a Lancia 2.0L turbo engine.
