Cat C cars as Donors

How do.

Thinking about building a kit and I am curious if anyone knows what the score is with using a car that has been written off as a donor.

I mean if you are (not really a locost question) building a Single Donor car would it be on a Q plate or the age related one of the donor?

How do you prove ownership of a car without a V5 and how do you check you are buying off someone with the title to sell?

How can you prove a car is off the road SORN without a V5?

In the eyes of the law... Registered Keeper is not required to be Registered Owner, so you can sell cars that are owned by you but not registered to you.

SORN status can be found on the DVLA website, based on reg number and basic details.

CAT C could be used, I checked this with DVLA, and they were happy that this is ok, and you would just get the vehicle inspected as normal. VIC was not needed, just keep a record of what was done.

Normally, when you build a kit car using a single donor vehicle, as long as you have the V5 to prove it's age, you will be issued with an age related plate, otherwise you get issued with a Q plate. If the donor vehicle had been written off, you may be able to get a letter from the DVLA to confirm its age and hence still get an age related plate.

If the vehicle has no V5, then surely it is no longer able to be driven (as far as the DVLA are concerned), therefore it wouldn't be necessary to declare SORN.

When a car is classed as Cat C the insurance comapny will ask for the registration document back. To get a new document the car has to be inspected to check it has not been applied to a clone. DOn't know how this would relate if the cat C car is effectively not used but an age related plate is desired.
