How much should I pay for a 3.62LSD?
brashhighlander - 20/12/06 at 05:14 PM

Title says it all. I am looking for a 3.62 LSD but I don't want to get ripped of by the local scrappy so what is the going rate for one of these.

Cheers
jim

I took the back end out of a XR4x4 and paid £75 for Diff, driveshafts, hubs etc which I thought was rather reasonable.

As its a scrappy, your not going to know the condition for sure and therefor I would say that gives you haggling power.

Just take an average price when everyone else replies..........

Paid exactly the same, but that was in the days before diff prices started getting silly.
At least its only a 3.62 your after, and not the holy grail of diffs the 3.14. personally i wouldnt give more than £50 for just the diff.
especially when you consider some folk have paid less than that for the complete car. suppose it depends how long your prepared to wait and how hard you look.

keep hunting the scrapyards as every one on ebay is a bit steep ,i got a complete 4x4 back end for £80 with brakes but they are getting a bit thin on the ground now

I can't get one in Northern Ireland, I'd go up to about £150 for the diff, halfshafts, ideally the disk brakes as well.
If anyone knows of one in NI, U2U me.

The most important bit is the LSD element, as long as you have that then you can add the crown wheel and pinion of your choice.
I flogged a 3.38 open diff to a performance car builder and he said he would strip it use the crown wheel and pinion on the LSD he had....

So the conclusion is, get the ratio you want when you find it ( as the ratio seems to be the bigger problem) and add it to any LSD.

Of course it will cost more but i am just adding bits to my to my pile of upgrades, just in case

we bought a running xr4 mot fail for £50 lst year but my uncle paid £150 for the back end also so i think pay what ever you think its worth

I very recently paid £50 for a complete 3.62 lsd rear end including driveshafts, calipers etc. from the local scrappy. (Didn't need it TBH, but at that price will be 'insurance' should the present one fitted in my build prove to be a lemon.)
