A quick question, usually all the talk on here is about diffs, but I have a question about driveshafts!
The "big CV" shafts (i.e. 108mm OD rather than the smaller 100mm OD lobro) as fitted to the 2wd sierra cosworth............what else were
these fitted to?
I think that they were on all the 24v granada/scorpios, but were they on any of the 12v v6 granadas or scorps?
Also what is different at the hub end on these cars, I think I am right in saying that the "cosworth" of large CV outer flange unit (the
long splined bit with the thread on the end) will just slide into the assembly as found on XR4x4 etc. I know the cosworth has a different hub carrier
but the bearings etc are the same and the only difference between the carriers is the caliper ears.

As far as I know all the scorpio's had the same diff fitted (apart from ratio's & lsd of course ), so it would make (ford) sense to
presume that they all had the same output flange as well.

Only the 2WD sierra cossie has the large flanges fitted as standard. All the grannies, even 24V cossie (though it has the 7.5" LSD) have the
standard 100mm flanges and standard shafts. The way to tell them apart (on ebay pics for example) is while the 100mm flanges have a flat mounting
face, the 108mm flanges have a rim/lip round the edge - sort of a register for the cv if you like. You can see that the 108mm flanges are about the
same diameter as the case casting, whereas the 100mm flanges are about the same diameter as the castellated bit that screws in to the case.
As far as i know the large shafts are interchangable with the smaller ones - large inner flanges can be fit into a small flanged 7.5" diff, and
large outer flanges will fit in a standard hub. Best bet is to look for a whole cossie rear beam assy. If it's not obvious from the pics which
it is get the seller to measure the flange/cv od or provide a better pic (so you can see the rim/lip of the flange or compare the od to the case).
These pics are a bit dark but you can see the rim and that the flange od matches the round part of the case...

7.5" small flanges?
Advertised as a cosworth 7.5" lsd (but sierra or scorp??). It's a bad picture but the flanges look smaller than the case and you cant see a
lip round the cv. If that's right this is off a granny and has the small flanges/shafts. If you're interested in this ask for a better
photo of the flange area or get him to measure the od.
This is pretty much gospel according to ford but there is always the possibility of parts bin specials or aftermarket upgrades so confirm every time.
I have heard a couple of times on the grapevine of later scorps with large flanges/cvs (with no lip on the flange either just to confuse things).
This is possibly late (post 1995) bugeye with no LSD but not really sure on the truth of this. Might be a cheap source of large cvs if true
though.
PassionFord or the FSOC is where the expertise seems to be. You wont get much help from fordscorpio.co.uk in
my experience.

funnily enough just messaged the 2nd seller asking the same as I thought they looked like 100mm flanges!
I seem to recall that some of the RWD Alfa cars had 108mm joints, just can't remember which ones. Haven't messed with an Alfa since my Guilletta vapourised itself into an MOT failure.
don't spose you know if the 5 and 7 series beemers do?
Know the smaller ones are compatible with the ford 100mm stuff.
darrians use bmw shafts mated to sierra bearing housings and granada hubs .
yea, know they fit the same bolt, circle and spline, as the grassers use them to give more choice of driveshaft length off the shelf.
What i dont know is which beemers they come from!
